Letter 95: What's on my Radar in Jan 2026?

I spent the better part of 2025 selling tokens, consolidating my positions, and extolling the virtues of a “less is more” approach to portfolio management. This resulted in a lot of sitting on my hands and watching the market go by. While I am very pleased that I took such an approach, and broadly still believe this is the best approach to take (for myself, and for most people), I might have taken it a step too far.

You see, my greatest gains in the past came from being active in the space and being early to new metas. My gains came from taking a bit of a spray-and-pray approach and buying lots and lots of things in these metas, and seeing what stuck. They came from building conviction over time, by seeing trends play out over and over, and using this experience to notice the early signs of when things were about to pop off.

By sitting on my hands (or, rather, by playing golf too much), I ended up a bit too disconnected from the space. Yes, I took myself out of situations where I might have overtraded or made poor decisions — but I also took myself out of situations where I might have researched and stumbled upon new and interesting projects nice and early.

In 2026, I am trying to find a better middle ground. Still keeping my portfolio slim, and still taking a less is more approach, but while trying to pay a bit more attention and taking a few more stabs at tokens to try and catch and stack some smaller wins. The difference is that this year, I hope, I will be a lot more aggressive in taking profit and in not holding too many open trades.

So, kicking off the new year and the new format of this newsletter, I thought we would take a look at a few tokens that have piqued my interest over the last few days.

The sector that excites me the most right now is the AI Agent sector, specifically because of the x402 payments standard and the upcoming ERC-8004 protocol (set to go live on January 16th) that I wrote about last week. These in combination with the newly announced UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol) by Google, and the general continued bullish trend of AI on a global macro scale make me think that this is where some of the best opportunities are in crypto.

Note that the market is still shaky as a whole, and if BTC crashes, everything will crash along with it. These are all high risk bets (two are sub 1m market cap) and I don’t recommend that you buy into these tokens; rather I present them to help in your own research and decision making.
